What We Treat

Kratom addiction treatment for adults

When kratom use becomes hard to stop

Kratom comes from the leaves of a tree native to Southeast Asia. It is sold in shops and online as powders, capsules, teas and drinks. People use it for energy, to relax, to manage pain or to ease opioid withdrawal on their own. It is not FDA-approved for any medical use, and product strength and contents can vary.

Regular kratom use can lead to dependence. Many people notice that they need more over time, or that they feel irritable, achy and restless when they skip a dose. That is a sign your body has adapted, not a personal failure, and it is something treatment can help with.

This page is for adults in Yuba City and across California who want to cut back on or stop kratom, and for family members who are concerned.

Signs kratom use may be a problem

If several of these fit, it may be worth a confidential conversation.

  • You use kratom every day and find it hard to go without.
  • You need more kratom than before to feel the same effect.
  • You feel irritable, achy, restless or unable to sleep when you skip a dose.
  • You spend more money or time on kratom than you planned.
  • You started kratom to manage opioid use or withdrawal and now feel stuck.
  • You combine kratom with alcohol, opioids or other substances.
  • You have tried to cut back and keep returning to the same pattern.

Levels of care at ARC

A clinical assessment guides which level of care fits. Programs are for adults 18 and older.

What kratom treatment at ARC focuses on

Your plan follows your assessment and goals. Sessions often focus on:

  • Understanding what kratom has been doing for you, such as energy, pain relief or stress relief.
  • Coordinating with medical providers so cutting back happens safely.
  • Skills for managing cravings, sleep changes and low mood as your body adjusts.
  • Other substance use, including any history of opioid use.
  • New routines for energy, rest and handling stress.
  • A relapse prevention plan you can keep using after a structured program ends.

What to expect when you reach out

  1. Step 1: Reach out

Request a free, confidential assessment or call or text 530-625-7910, 24/7.

  2. Step 2: Talk with our team

We listen to what you have noticed, check your benefits and recommend a safe level of care.

  3. Step 3: Start your plan

You begin IOP, Evening IOP or PHP, or detox first through our partner when that is safer.

Tell us how much kratom you use, how often, and whether you also use opioids, alcohol or other substances. That helps us recommend a safe starting level of care.

What to know before you stop kratom

Regular kratom use can lead to dependence and withdrawal. Withdrawal can include muscle aches, irritability, trouble sleeping, a runny nose and strong cravings. Do not stop suddenly without medical guidance, especially if you use a lot or also use other substances.

Kratom is not FDA-approved for any medical use, and products are not regulated like medications. If you may need medical detox, we coordinate it with our partner, Ona Treatment Center. ARC does not provide detox itself.
