What We Treat

Cannabis addiction treatment for adults

Cannabis is legal for adults in California, and that can make it harder to talk about when it stops feeling like a choice. If marijuana is getting in the way of the life you want, ARC offers outpatient treatment for adults 18+ in Yuba City or by live telehealth.

When cannabis use starts to feel out of your control

Many people use cannabis to relax, sleep or take the edge off stress. For some, daily use slowly becomes something they rely on to feel normal, and cutting back brings irritability, poor sleep or strong cravings. Legal does not always mean harmless for everyone.

Cannabis use disorder is a recognized, treatable condition. Higher-potency products, vapes and concentrates can make it easier to use more than intended. Treatment helps you understand what cannabis is doing for you, what it is costing you and how to meet those needs in other ways.

This page is for adults in Yuba City and across California who want to cut back or stop using cannabis, and for family members who are worried.

Signs cannabis use may be a problem

If several of these fit, it may be worth a confidential conversation.

  • You use most days and find it hard to go a day without it.
  • You use more, or more often, than you meant to.
  • You feel irritable, restless, anxious or unable to sleep when you stop.
  • You have lost interest in activities, goals or people you used to enjoy.
  • Use is affecting your motivation, memory, work or school.
  • You use to cope with stress, anxiety or low mood and it no longer helps.
  • You have tried to cut back and keep returning to the same pattern.

Levels of care at ARC

A clinical assessment guides which level of care fits. Programs are for adults 18 and older.

What cannabis treatment at ARC focuses on

Your plan reflects your assessment and what you want to change. Sessions often focus on:

  • Understanding when and why you use, including stress, boredom, sleep and social habits.
  • Practical steps for cutting back or stopping, and coping with irritability and sleep changes.
  • Building new routines for relaxation, rest and enjoyment.
  • Anxiety, depression or other concerns that may be connected to use.
  • Talking with family or supportive people about the changes you are making, when you choose to.
  • A relapse prevention plan you can keep using after a structured program ends.

What to know about stopping cannabis

Cutting back on cannabis after daily use often brings irritability, trouble sleeping, vivid dreams, low appetite and cravings for a few days or weeks. These are common and usually ease with time and support.

Some people experience severe vomiting, intense anxiety or psychosis linked to cannabis use. These need prompt medical care. If you also use alcohol or other substances, talk to a medical provider before stopping.
